I used to be a loyal Music Quest guy. I felt dirty if I went anywhere else. Recently it changed ownership and I'm looking for a new place to go. I've since been to Guitar Center a couple times and I was pretty impressed. Not just with the selection. With a large store like that, I really wasn't expected such great service. The owner of Music Quest recommended Apple, but I haven't been there.
any other recommendations?

I like Mike at apple, he is cool guy and likes to trade. Guitar Center will trade but rip you off. there is a place in Manassas, where I bought my amp, but they are under new ownership, so I don't know. I like to go into picker's and drool on the martins and taylors, but they seem high to me. In price that is! LOL!(although they may be high too!)

I love Martins, I'm a big fan of Guild and Taylors too. Right now I've been looking at Ovations and Tacomas cuz they're a little more in my price range for pretty good quality

I love Martins and Taylors as well, but those Tacomas are awesome for the money. As a matter of fact I played one at Apple. He used to be a dealer.

Mike isn't at Apple anymore. He sold out to Karl who is also a cool guy. Bob and Karl have helped me out a lot. They rented an Ampeg bass head to us for our last show. Bob came over to the Bourbon Room before our Boobs show to help me set up the PA. Great customer support. If you're an Apple guy they treat you well. There's Apple people, Pickers people and GC people. I think I'm pretty much an Apple guy. Pickers is really cool too and Peter Mealy is awesome. I bought my amp from him really cheap. I got my Dot there too. But typically Pickers doesn't carry the kind of stuff I want. Guitar Center is cool and it's fun to try everything out as they have so much. I like to go there just to fuck off. Anytime you guys want to run to GC and toy around give me a call.
My friend Dorian just bought a Tacoma from Apple. They do take trades. Tacomas are really good guitars but I think they're ugly as fuck. You might want to check out Alvarez. They make some really solid guitars for how cheap they are. I used to own one and couldn't believe how nice it was.

Man, I need to get out more, I had no idea Mike sold out. I will have to check out the new owners. I do like dealing with Peter mealy, as a matter of fact, I remembered that I bought my Alesis RA-100 and Mackie mixer from him. I have never played anything made by Alvarez. Have to check them out as well.

I dunno about GC anytime soon, though I wanna go get the "teach yourself to sing" program cuz I'm tonedeaf like you wouldn't believe and I dunno if anything can help me. The product line of "Teach Yourself To..." is pretty reliable though. I lost my train of thought. All I wanted to say was there's a pawn shop near four mile fork that has an assload of guitars and a decent selection of amps (nothing eyepopping or jawdropping) that I wanted to check out one day, you interested in that? bbpawn.com/Frettedinst.html bbpawn.com/ampspedals.html

Ronnie, you got that 5150 you were talking about? I'm gonna have to catch your next show just to hear you peel the paint off the walls. Oh yeah.....I got that guy's number for you.
The new owner of Apple is a longtime employee of Apple. So they only thing that's changed really is the layout of the place. You're still dealing with the same people. Karl is the tall guy who used to play bass in Elephant Boy.

Well I played my first show with it this past weekend. After fine tuning it alittle,it was pretty dominant. It has alot of power. It is my first tube amp and I am impressed so far. I was never a big fan the 5150 amp,not that it wasn;t good, but just not good for me. I sort-of took it as being good for those people that wanted to sound just like Eddie Van Halen. I guess what I am trying to say is that I didn't think that it had alot diverse tones, like a marshall or Fender. But when we opened for Jackyl back in Nov., I was blown away by how powerfull thier guitar sound was. You couldn't see the amps, just the cabs, the actual amps were nestled behind the stage. But when I took a peak from behind the stage,it was,you guessed it ,Peavy 5150 heads-6 of them to be exact. It was a great sound,I'm not shure what they record with (I really didn't get into that much of a conversation with them) but live- it was awesome.

Awesome, glad it worked out for you. I kind of thought the same thing from what I heard, I figured it would be better playing a certain type of music, mainly distorted. But usually peaveys have a great clean sound. Wasn't sure about the 5150, but I did think it would have power to spare. And I love Jackyl's guitar sounds, never knew they used 5150s!!

I don't think I could pick Jackyl's sound out of anything. Not familiar. I tried a Vox AC15 this week and it was awesome. Guitar Center guy pissed me off though with his condescending attitude. Dude comes up to me with "hey, when you play through a tube amp, you're gonna wanna put the standby on". I said "yeah, I'll remember that when I get home and plug into my Deluxe Reverb". Dick head.
