What brands do you use for acoustic and electric.
I like John Pearse for my acoustic, but can't always find them so I use Diadarrio(sp). I also like DR as well.
For my Electric I like Dean Markley custom light, but they are getting hard to find as well, so I end up with GHS boomers half the time.

I like the Dadarrios for my acoustics. I really don't want to use any others. I find they stay in tune better for a new string and they don't have that fake brightness lasting as long as others. Also, it really helps at a show to have a colored ball at the end of the string so you know which one you're getting. I use 21's for my acoustics.
I haven't really settled on eletric strings after all these years. Sometimes I use Fenders and other times it's what's on sale or I'll try something new. I use 10's for my electrics except my 335 copy, which I use 11's for.

I don't like Elixirs. They get grubby and flaky and put weird flakes on the neck which require further cleaning. I never clean my guitars or wipe them down except after our Fattys On The Water show. They were drenched with sweat and there was a film on both guitars. It was Clay film.

I use D'addario's also, extra light-9's. Bob Smith is always bustin my balls about using heavier strings,but I've tried and hate it. I have tiny hands and like to use little strings,I think I just play more accuratly with lighter strings. Heavier strings might be alright for Bob and his 3 chord open mic jams,but I play-or at least I try my best to. I guess Bob doesn't get it, there is a big difference between playing a Bob Dylan song and trying to pull off some Van Halen riffs.

Then again, I've never had the oppurtunity to play outdoors until I was sweating my balls off either. I like the Elixers cuz they seem to last longer than the other strings I've played and they're easier on the fingers when doing anything with a lot of sliding. I use the D'addarios on my acoustic but I noticed there's Elixers for acoustic guitars now too. I may try them out next |

I didn't know they made Elixers for electric. I just don't like 'em and they're more expensive. Plus, I was reading in Newsweek magazine before that if you use them then you're probably gay.
Actually, I did take Bob's advice for strings and it worked for me, but I can see why it wouldn't for you , Ronnie. You are bending a lot with those little girl hands of yours so big strings probably wouldn't work for you.
I do like using the big ones on my acoustics as they make the 10's on my electrics seem tiny and thus I have an easier time at the shows. Of course, I'm such a klutz with little skill finding the big string I need while playing is easier for me. If I used tiny strings I'd probably hit the wrong note.
I don't give advice as if it's best for everyone. And in music when someone gives you adivce, what they're saying is "you should be more like me". Being Clay isn't going to work for most people. It barely works for me.
Ronnie, we kicked ass on the sound job. I'm not sure how the band felt about it but I didn't have to touch a thing after the third song. I know in the audince it was hot.

Everybody agrees,it was good and it was alot of fun. When and if you do sound for us again,I think I'm gonna just use my slave amp for Monitors,basicly its just a power amp. We were just useing your mixer for power,so I guess we can just get rid of it and control everything from one console. I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier. I hope you were happy with the money that we gave you. If not,your too late,I have already spent it all on drugs and hookers.
If you wanna make a few bucks again sometime, I'll inform you on some dates that we might need you and we can just use our own gear,maybe you can just bring some extra mics and cables-just in case.

Yeah, I'm up for it. I didn't mind using my amp as it powered everything nicely. We may not wanna change anything. I brought along extra cables, stands, mics, just in case.
The money was fine too but it didn't go very far in this town for drugs and hookers. The drugs cost more than the hookers did.
Oh, I checked those mic cables Tuesday night at the open mic. They're good. It's that freaking vocal box that was disturbing the signal.

They are 9's but the top strings are heaver(I think a regular gauge, not sure). But you get the 9's at the top for leads but still get a heavier sound for chords etc. |
